Powerboat

This course provides a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. It covers boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer (8-11-year-olds to observe), everyday boat handling, preparation of boat and crew, picking up and securing to a mooring buoy, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard (theory) and the use of safety equipment. The course may be conducted in a variety of boat types, both planning and displacement, and the certificate issued will be endorsed to show the type of boat in which the training took place.

This course provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low-speed close quarters handling, launching and recovery, securing to a buoy, anchoring, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course can be taken at an inland or coastal location. It may be conducted in a variety of boat types, both planing and displacement. The certificate issued will be endorsed to show the type of boat in which the training took place.

This course is ideal for those who are already familiar with driving powerboats and may already hold a licence from a different certification agency. Our RYA instructor will assess you on a variety of boat handling techniques and theory to make sure you are at the correct competency level to issue you an RYA Powerboat 2 licence. • Minimum age 12 years old (candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate)

• Passport photo is required for certification
• €150 per person for members and €175 for non-members

Please note that if you do not meet the prerequisite standard required for obtaining the RYA Powerboat 2 licence, we may require you to enrol in the full PB2 course before issuing the licence.

This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques (can be covered as theory), elements of race management, mark laying, preparation, boat handling, towing, end-of-day procedures, safety, suitability of craft, local factors, communication and rescuing other water users. It is strongly recommended that a member of the rescue crew should hold a first aid certificate (or should have experience of first aid).

• Should have a basic understanding of sailing boats and windsurfers. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to this course.
• Duration: 2-day course; duration: 09:30 – 17:00
• Minimum age 16 years old
• €425 per person for members and €475 for non-members

Please note that if you do not meet the prerequisite standard required for obtaining the RYA Safety Boat certificate, you will not be able to complete the course.
