The Youth Sailing scheme is usually completed in the Picos, small dinghies suitable for the size of the sailor, but courses can also be completed in the J70 keelboats. Our expert instructors offer a safe environment for children to have fun, learn and challenge themselves.

Start sailing Stage 1

An introduction to the parts of the boat and the basic principles of how to get a boat sailing across the wind, steering, turning around, launching and recovery.

  • No previous experience required
  • Duration: 2 days, 16 hours or equivalent number of sessions
  • Recommended age 8 – 16+ years
  • Maximum 6 persons per course
  • €170 per person for members; €200 per person for non-members

Start Sailing Stage 2

Develop the skills needed to sail around a course and understand the basic principles needed to become a confident sailor. Improved boat control and speed, sailing on all points of sail, tacking, gybing, ropework and collision avoidance.

  • Sailing skills to the standard of Stage 1
  • Duration: 2 days, 16 hours or equivalent number of sessions
  • Recommended age 8 – 16+ years
  • Maximum 6 persons per course
  • €170 per person for members; €200 per person for non-members

Start Sailing Stage 3

Build your confidence and develop the skills needed to sail in different directions and around a triangular course in moderate conditions. Improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery.
