For the first time, we hold an RYA Powerboat level 1 course for kids. Our Chief Instructor, Ben Murray-Brown shared with us a few impressions.
This course is an introduction to boating and is specifically useful for kids, although not exclusively. The course includes techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment. The course is a one-day introduction to powerboating with a maximum capacity of 8 people. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate, saying that they must only operate a
powerboat under the supervision of an adult.
The two PMYC participants, Amber Browne and Damir Sen showed impressive skills with the preparation of the boat and crew, boat handling, picking up and securing to a mooring buoy, leaving and coming alongside and being towed. This certified course encourages awareness of safety procedures on the water and inspires confidence in boat handling. This is an excellent addition to the sailing skills they have picked up already. We wish them all the best in their new sport for the future, concluded Ben.
